Sport Angling :
Kingfisher Sports Fishing Association “Doubles league 2008”match 3.
Poulton and Borg won the day

Sunday 20th April, proved to be a difficult start for kingfisher members, upon their arrival at Zonqor point a two meter swell could be seen breaking against the shore. A quick decision was made to move the event to Valletta fish market area, which also proved to be a problem for a number of fishing trawlers where berthed along the jetty, a quick vote and the final venue was to be L-Isla point. It is becoming very difficult for the club to organize its matches for many of the good inshore fishing spots are being closed off, namely we have Bighi point, St Angelo point, Tigne point, Manoel Island (pending permits) and all marinas have no competitive fishing allowed. The match started an hour late, thus the possibility of the early morning good sized fish thrown away, the chief marshal Alex Genovese blew the horn to signal the start of the match at 7.30am. The usual breed of fish were caught like wrasse, silver bream, red mullet, bogue (vopi), horse mackerel, guilt head bream and red bream. A beautiful 600grm gilthead bream was caught on the last cast of the day by Darrel Pace. Team BiBi, made up of Pierre Poulton and Charlo Borg where the team to beat, these are currently first in the league and always fishing on form. Word soon spread around fast, that they were catching a number of good sized bogue. Team Fish Bone, Adrian Nelson and Nathalian Attard, were catching up with a number of silver bream and wrasse caught from dockyard point using Koreano worms as bait. Team Sharks, Mario Marlow and Clayton Camilleri were also neck in neck with the other two teams. A total of 20 teams fish the Kingfisher doubles league which proves most popular with the members. The results at the end of the day were as follows:
1st
Team BiBi : Pierre Poulton and Charlo Borg 2880
2nd
Team Fish Bone : Adrian Nelson and Nathalian Attard 2130
3rd Team Sharks : Mario Marlow and Clayton Camilleri 2110
27 kilos of fish caught were returned back into the sea to be fought another day, honoring the Kingfisher motto which is, “Catch and Release”.
