Sport Angling Kingfisher
Sports Fishing Association “Singles league 2008”. KSFA members fished the start of the 2008 Singles angling league early Sunday morning, on the 10th of February at 6.45am. The match was scheduled to be held along the rocky shore in Sliema, Exiles, but due to the bad weather and rough seas, the match had to be diverted to the sheltered bay at Gzira. Twenty two anglers registered for this match, all excited and keen to catch good weights, even though the weather was not so kind. Once the pegs were drawn, all anglers settled, and the chief marshal blew the horn to signal the start of the match. The first indications looked good, weather overcast, slight North East wind coming from the back and the sea slightly coloured, just what the anglers want for mullet fishing. Most members who have fished with the club for many years, knew this was an opportunity not to be missed, so tackle set up was purposely for mullet fishing, Bolognese method rods, running float method rigs and long poles, was the order of the day. In the first hour word started to get around that some small mullet had been caught by Adrian Nelson, but the anglers waited patiently for the bigger bonus fish to move into the swims and feed on the cheesy ground bait. As time passed and tension grew, anglers in the leading positions concentrated hard on their floats, looking for that minimal movement, ready to strike into that mystical mullet. The
best of the day went to Charlie Caruana who landed 1.43kg of mullet, in
second come David Tabone with 1.36kg of mullet and bream, third went to
Stefan Borg with 1.25kg of mullet and a nice stripped bream. The biggest
fish of the day was caught by one of the clubs new younger members Luke
Bonnici, a hard fighting 0.730g mullet. Many of the other anglers were
very close with weights close to 1kg. Any queries about the club can be
found by visiting the club website www.ksfamalta.org.
A special thanks goes to Mr Fish for their support to make these angling
leagues happen.
